Red River Instinctive Throw – March 24-26, 2017

Instinctive knife throwing is the ability to manipulate the rotation of a knife at any distance to achieve a successful stick. The instinctive knife challenge course event is a competition geared toward that ability and is not set to any specific style. Spin, no spin, whatever your comfortable with is welcome just note that there will be no marked distances aside from the 3m minimum around the target post. $40 for competitors, spectators are free 9″ knife minimum for the Instinctive course, 10″ for the other events unless otherwise specified in the rules, 16″ knife maximum length At the competition there will be concession style food and drinks. You may bring your own for the closest gas station and dollar store are 10 minutes away. Free camping grounds but you’ll need to bring your own gear. I have room for RVs and campers but no connections. For those of you who’d rather not camp there are hotels in Mt Vernon, Mt. Pleasant, and Paris Tx all within a 30 minute drive from the throw. If you’re flying in and want to ship your knives to me in advance let me know so that I can keep an eye out. PACKAGE THEM WELL PLEASE.

MAIN EVENT RULES: There will be 5 courses. Each course is made up of three target post. Throwers and scorer will be the only two people on the range at one time for safety. Competitors will begin at a designated line in front of each course. This is a timed event. On the word go time will start and you will then navigate through 3 targets trying to stick each as fast as possible. After the last knife has been thrown to end your time you must ring a bell located on the center target in that lane. The scorekeeper will then adjust your time by your sticks and misses. Scoring: On each target post there will be 3 stacked 6″x8″ target rectangles. The top and bottom add 3 seconds to your time but the middle being a bull’s-eye will subtract 5 seconds. A complete miss will add 5 seconds. So if you do well there’s a possibility that you will have a negative time at the end of the course.

Instinctive Pick 3: Pick 3 Instinctive Game: Throwers are required to have 3 knives, minimum length of 9″ no longer than 16″. We will use the 3’x3′ long distance target in an unmarked Area. A spectator, or a non competitor, will be asked to place 12 marker Flags numbed 1-12between 6′ and 40′. The flags can be placed wherever they desire so long as the lower numbers are closer than the higher numbers. The markers being randomly placed do not represent distance so the competitors have to rely on experience or Instinct to adjust their throw accordingly. Throwers will draw their marker numbers one from each of three jars. 1-4 will be in one jar, 5-8 will be in another jar, and 9-12 will be in the last jar. This will give a more even playing field so that not one person will draw all close while another draws far away. The thrower will then throw from each marker closest to farthest. Minimum of 2 sticks are needed to move forward for this is an elimination style event. After all three knives are thrown the range master will retrieve the knives so that throwers cannot “pace out” the distances. In the event of a tie throwers will then be required to stick all three knives to break it. Any style is acceptable but a helpful tip would be to *stick* with whatever you can control the best.
